Background and Interests
City College is looking for students who have strong academic records, particularly in math and science, excellent recommendations, and a demonstrated interest in teaching. Applicants may demonstrate their interest and commitment to education through a variety of experiences such as tutoring, leading study groups, being a camp counselor or recreation leader, or actual teaching experiences in religious or other organization.
Academically, students must meet City College’s general admissions criteria. In addition the following are considered important: an average of 85 or above in all courses, and on science and Math B Regents exams; and good SAT scores. Entering students should to be ready to take calculus in their first semester of college, a requirement that can be met with a high school, summer school, or College Now pre-calculus course. Transfer students should have taken calculus.

High School Seniors
If you have an 85 average in your math and science courses and good SAT scores, here are the steps to join the Teacher Academy at CCNY:
If you have not applied to CUNY, you should do so now. Go to the CUNY web site for the CUNY Application Form.
Complete this High School Senior Application Form. It includes two essay questions and two recommendation forms to be completed, including at least one from a math or science teacher.

Current City College Undergraduate
If you have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have begun a math or science major, Complete the Teacher Academy Undergraduate application, including the two essay questions. You must also submit two recommendations, including at least one from a college math or science teacher.
Current Undergraduate at Other Colleges
If you are a current freshman in another college, including a CUNY school, who wants to enter the CCNY Teacher Academy program in your sophomore year, you will need to transfer to City College. You will
Complete the Teacher Academy Undergraduate application, including the two essay questions. You must also submit two recommendations, including at least one from a college math or science teacher.
If you have not been accepted at CCNY, please submit a transfer application online at http://www.cuny.edu
Submit your application now. Final acceptance will be contingent on the submission of a satisfactory college transcript including spring 2007 grades. Admitted students will spend three years in the program and will be required to attend the Teacher Academy summer program preceding the sophomore year.
