The Teacher Academy admits exceptional students who meet the following criteria:

  1.  High overall high school average;
  2. High grades in mathematics and science courses;
  3. High Regents scores in mathematics and science subjects;
  4. High SAT or ACT scores;
  5. Strong recommendations from at least one math or science teacher;
  6. Demonstrated interest in teaching;
  7. U.S. citizenship or legal residency in New York or New Jersey.

  1. Four-year scholarship covering all tuition and fees;
  2. Stipends for internships in host schools during the school year;
  3. A full-time teaching position within the New York City Department of Education upon successful completion of The Teacher Academy program including course work, fieldwork, and pre-employment screening.
 
Commitment PDF Print E-mail

In order to retain The Teacher Academy scholarship, at the end of the first year study, students commit to working in a high need New York City public school for at least two years after graduation. The New York City Department of Education commits that each new teacher placed in a New York City school will receive one-on-one mentoring to ensure success in the classroom. Teacher Academy students will develop and maintain a network of fellow graduates and master teachers for ongoing collaboration while on the job.
